Maternity Home and Hospital

Established in 1921 the Hospital has its own building with accodmmodation for 155 beds, with modern operation theatre, ambulance service and other facilities, recognized by Central and State Governments for training of House officers and medical reimbursement.

  1. Post Partum Programme of Central Government started in 1974. It has a vehicle used for reaching outside colonies, showing films on family planning etc. This centre is graded as 5th in the whole state of Maharashtra.

  2. Pathology laboratory started in 1928. All pathological tests and cancer diagnosis done.
    2. X-Ray-started in 1966.
  3. Well baby clinic with Premature baby unit - Started in 1973. Facility of NICU is also available.
  4. Sonography-Started in 1998.
  5. Eye clinic-Started in 1999.
  6. Homeopathy clinic - Started in 1999.

Institute of Social Work

Institute of social work was started in 1958. Affiliated to the Nagpur University, imparts education for certificate course of two years, a three year Bachelors degreee course and the Master degree course in Social Work. M.Phil course also sanctioned.
Activities - It conducts

  1. National adult education programmed in the urban slums of Nagpur.
  2. School social work services promotion programme.
  3. Slum community development centres.
  4. Social development project in rural areas.
Nandanvan - School for mentally Retarded.

Nandwan was established in 1960, and is held in its own premises, a three storeyed building. It is recognized by the Social Welfare Department of Govt. of Maharashtra. There is a shelter workshop for

the grown up students and a hostel for 30 students. There are threee centres started at urban areas of Nagpur. A training centre for special teachers is proposed to be started very soon. Academic courses different crafts are taught to train the mentally retailed children for self earning, such as-Tailoring, Weaving, chalk making, caning, wood work, coir making, painting etc.

Guidance to the parents as well as the teachers. The school received monetary help from the Health and Social Welfare Department of U.S.A. known as VRA-INd 18-65 project There are 200 school going children.

Panchawati Vruddhashram-Home for the Aged

Panchawati Ashram was established in 1961 with a donation of Rs. 10,000/- by Late Laxmibai Chitanavis and a plot of three acres donated by Late Rajabal Chitanavis. The old temporary construction having been dilapidated a new building has been constructed at the cost of 14 Lakhs on the same premises to acommodate 100 persons. Men and Women separately. Independent cottages are also provided to needy persons. The Ashram has a temple of Shri Ram where religious discourses, Bhajans, Kirtans are held.

Administration is looked after by a manager and a lady warden with other domestic staff.
A few inmates pay full amount, while others are subsidised by social welfare Department of Govt. of Maharasthra and the parent Body. It runs on the grant of Social Welfare Department & donations of the public. Serve the needy, serve the helpless and HE will serve you.

Ortho Hospital


Orthopedically handicapped Childrens from downtroden rural and tribal are operated upon in this centre. Post operative assistance is also provided disabled by birth, polio, spastic, accident deformities and disabilities under the special experts doctors free of cost. Centre have well equipped operation theatre also have physiotherapist, councellors.

Physically Handicapped Rehabilitation Centre


In 1981 orthopaedic Hospital. Residentaial Rehabilitation Centre started. This centre offers facilities to children for operation and post operative exercises along with well equipped hsopital and residential school having classes from 1st to 10 th std. Physically handicapped and economically backward are the only two parameters for school admission. The project gets grant in aid from state govt's social welfare department Honorary teachess also do contribute in this school. Boys from 6 to 14 and girls from 6 to 18 total 75 are taking advantage. Here experts advice for treatment, exercise along with calipers are available. Along with formal education the students are nonformal education like music, tabla, harmonium, computer, tailoring, embroidary, knitting etc. After assesing students speical interests the special trainning is given to make them Financially independent by self employment.

Family Counselling Centre (FCC)

Sponsored by the Central Social Welfare Board the FCC is engaged in intensive work with families which have found it difficult to deal with their problems. The trained counsellors provide professional services to help individuals and families with broken or strained marital relationships; parent-child relationships or other intra-family or even neighbourhood relationships. The causes may be traced to alcoholism, extra-marital affaris, lack of or breakdown of social and/or economic support networks, faulty communication patterns, negative attitueds, inadequate information, poor legal literacy etc.

The FCC not only helps the clients to deal with their problems, it also reaches out to vulnerable groups and areas to identify problems at an early stage. It also takes up programmes to promote stronger family ties and healthy relationships herwith families. The break up of cases handled by the FCC in the last one/two/three years is as follows

Foundina Home

Providing care and protection to foundlings and providing adoption services are the main functions of this Home Located the Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur. It is a recognised adoption agency (Licenced by CARA) and has done commendable work in the area of promoting adoptions within the Country. Professional social workers help the prospective adoption comples through the process of adoption.
